Part of good management is checking all backflow preventers in your drinking water installation annually. The owner of the property is responsible from the water meter onwards. If backflow preventers no longer work, contaminated water can flow back into the installation and contaminate it (e.g. legionella bacteria); with all its consequences. A well-functioning one
backflow protection ensures that the drinking water installation remains clean. Keeping our drinking water network clean is a high priority. The water companies actively and strictly monitor compliance with the regulations. The government therefore makes annual inspection of backflow preventers mandatory in NEN1006 and Water Worksheet 1.4G.
What is a return flow inhibitor?
Wherever there is a branch from the water pipe, there must be a backflow prevention device within 15 cm. In practice, this means that almost all devices that are directly connected to a water supply system have a return flow inhibitor should be in place.
