Saval has been the leading training centre for REOB-certified maintenance engineers – now known as ODB (Extinguisher Maintenance Expert) – for small extinguishers since the early 80s. We have a long track record of thoroughly preparing course participants for their work.

During the strongly practice-based course at our training centre in Breda, students are familiarised with the fire-fighting equipment they will encounter in practice. Not only are they thus well prepared for their daily work, they are also ready for their exam. Candidates trained by Saval have historically had very high pass rates!

The quality of fire safety has been an undisputed point of attention, especially in recent years. It goes without saying that this quality can only be guaranteed by raising and maintaining the knowledge and skills of the maintenance technicians at a high level.

One fire truck is not like another

A service technician must have good basic knowledge to see the most important differences and dangers at a glance. After all, if used improperly, a fire extinguisher can change from a safety product into an unguided projectile. Our practice room has various fire trucks to get started with.

Additional REOB/ODB-training

This additional REOB/ODB training for mobile fire extinguishers lasts 2 days.

In addition, we naturally offer the full REOB/ODB training for portable fire extinguishers, which lasts six days. After those six days, we also organize a 'refresher day' at no extra cost, which is given just before the exam. On this day the course is summarized, questions can be answered and students are able to practice for the exam for the last time.

REOB/ODB training

The additional training, also called “Application course for maintenance expert extinguishing agents”, is an important part of the training process for service technicians. This course, which every service technician must follow once a year, guarantees that even experienced ODB technicians remain informed of the latest developments. Not an unnecessary luxury, because there are regularly important changes in fire protection.

Textbook and exam

You will receive the ODB textbook on the first day of the REOB/ODB mobile fire extinguisher training course. The costs are included in the course price. This textbook was created based on the final and test terms of the ODB courses and, in addition to a lot of information, it also contains practice assignments per chapter and a number of trial exams in preparation for the exam. This exam is administered by independent exam agency Certoplan.

Once the exam has been successfully completed, the Professional Training Certificate in Firefighting Equipment Maintenance Expert will be sent to you or your employer by post after a few weeks.

The exam dates, which are listed on saval.nl, are determined in consultation with Certoplan.

Admission requirements

The preliminary training for Maintenance Expert for Portable Fire Extinguishing Equipment is required to follow the training to become a maintenance expert for mobile fire extinguishers. For the e-learning variant (see complete REOB-ODB training on portable fire extinguishers) there is an admission requirement of at least MBO or MTS level.
